Thank you for introducing me to Nilüfer Yanya's music! Enjoying Miss Universe now. Second time listening through. Her music is living up to your thoughtful review.

Immediate recollection of Sade, for me. Vocally and rhythmically, confirmed with a quick listen to Smooth Operator. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TYv2PhG89A I am a fan of Sade, and Yanya is eminently listenable.

Nice.

Unsurprising, since Yanya makes extensive use of the electrified studio environment without trying to reverse-translate it to a "wall of sound," filled-out-mid-range product. So she lands herself in the late 80s / early 90s, exploring all the potential that was missed...

Paralysis took me to another place entirely. New artist to me.

It's nice to see some other Substacks taking a bit of brevity from all the bruhaha going on, especially if COVID may reach an ambiguous or untelevised "end" so to speak, it's nice to see people move into other avenues or allow for little bits of themselves shine through. It's going to be an interesting few months where we will see the dynamics of Substack shuffle a bit. I certainly know that these types of posts provide a nice breath of fresh air that helps to alleviate the constant inundations and heaviness from all of this COVID talk.

Personally, the music is not quite my cup of tea but I greatly appreciate you sharing something that you enjoy! I hope more of these things start to shine through on Substack.

I'm glad my diversion was diverting. Actually I envisioned Unglossed as having a wide scope from the start, including a lot more political theory and left-field scientific forays (like what does "falling" actually mean?).

The Covid vaccine focus really finalized in September, with the OSHA mandate on one hand and what I saw as incredibly sloppy work regarding "infection enhancement" from this side of the fence. Maybe for the next few months it will be a bit more split up.

Music reviews will not be a regular feature. I tried that once. You run out of things to say incredibly quickly. Music itself, however - huge part of how I think about the immune system and the virome, when I make references to "infection bandwidth" for example I am imagining David Byrne's talk about how different spaces can contain different amounts of musical information - https://youtu.be/p6uXJWxpKBM

Your post, "The War on Pee" (August 13 2021) is what caught my eye. The subject is not a problem that I have, but I am curious about everything and so I read it and took a look at other posts and that's when I became captivated. I appreciate your curiosity and willingness to dig in and look more deeply at a subject. Also, I like your writing style. So, I hope you'll continue to write about what interests you whatever it is.

Thank you. That was a great template for the kind of branching off I'd like to do, into other areas where medicine is still stuck in the ancient past with an obvious monetary gradient at work, but also "low hanging fruit" in that sense!
