Our cat chased the hawkmoths off, or ate them. I, too, have some good iPhone pictures of them, and several videos. Alas, our cat is too old to care anymore.
I dunno, she’s always liked eating bugs. We call her “Misty the bug-slayer.”
Here’s another from the archives. When we lived in Calif, one day I was talking the trash out, loving the morning air, and I said to myself, “Where have all the butterfly’s gone?” We had tons of them when I was young. I rounded the corner of the house and saw Misty with a big, beautiful butterfly in her mouth. I scolded her, continued to the toter, and on the way back saw that she had let it go (actually saw it fly away). I imagine she’d not been so kind to others she’d caught.
She has a tiny head, majestic facial structure, and a body like a ridiculous lump of fluff. She could be an instragram star, I am sure. But I don't want to warp her psyche.
Probably one of my favourite insects ever. Absolutely captivated the first time I ever saw one in the flesh - simply amazing. Found it impossible to photograph, however, so you've done really well with the iPhone. Thanks for sharing!
I have not been so lucky to see one in person until now (the Atlantic coast, where I grew up, has very few exotic creatures, or they are all crabs or whatever, don't ask me I'm not a zoologist). But lucky that the first one I encountered was crazy enough to let me wave a phone at it for 10 minutes.

I imagine it is about the most disappointing dining experience possible, in the life of a cat.
