I have completed writing up my Omicron origins theory. As soon as I finish the illustration, introduction, and footnotes on “alternate endings”1 that are potentially compatible with the theory, I will be ready to hit the post button; hopefully that will be today. I’m sure it will be a bit rough around the edges, but hopefully not as “over-compressed” as the other posts of my (still ongoing!) internet outage.
Speaking of which, I have added new visual material to my so-far hugely unpopular “Upside down fractal CUGA” diagram, which should make it more clear how the “game” represented by the diagram is to be played - as well as (if you scroll toward the bottom) the power of the diagram to visualize how L and R can be thought of as existing within a “cloud” of possible spellings (and thus, one-letter “moves” to other amino acids). There’s still other potentials and insights within the diagram that I need to unpack and write out. After Omicron Origins, I will attempt to dedicate a post to a full “walk-through” of the game.
Before then - as in immediately following Omicron Origins - will be this month’s passing-around of the donation jar. The response last month was inspiringly above-expectation, particularly thanks to a few generous super-donors, and I think I can assure readers that a small donation this round will not sit all alone in the jar, but rather contribute to the “donationigenic swarm” that will help sustain my work into the coming months.
And now, back to work. Thanks for subscribing to Unglossed!
Even as substack is constantly signaling an intention to deprecate the footnotes feature at any moment. In the latest gesture, they have turned off real links on all posts present and past (presumably to streamline their user tracking, though maybe to reduce tracking, who knows), which means that using footnote anchors as jump-links (a handy feature) no longer works! This half-breaks the index in my About page.
Thanks for all the research! I hope your internet is back by now. I've honestly been thinking about using the footnote feature but because my posts end up being in several parts I've just ended up putting my citations at the end of my multipart series and so I never fully utilized it.
Why would they remove the footnote capability? For a well-researched and/or data-based article, it's critical.
